New India’s Biggest Health Care Reform– National Medical Commission Bill.

Modi Government brought New India’s Biggest Health Care Reform- National Medical Commission Bill,

The bill replaced the 63-year-old Medical Council of India (MCI) with the commission to reform the medical education sector.

The government seeks to repeal the Indian Medical Council Act 1956,

with the authorities perceiving that the existing council was corrupt.

It has been alleged that the process by which the MCI regulated medical colleges was flawed, and because,

This Bill is pro-poor legislation, it would also bring not only government seats but also;

around 50 percent of all private seats are going to be within the reach of meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections.

The legislation would enhance the number of seats and teachers in medical colleges.

In the proposed board, out of the 26 members, 21 members would-be doctors.

The legislation would enhance the number of seats and teachers in medical colleges and have control over the fee structure.

The government Intends to regulate 75 percent of seats in medical colleges.

Among others, the bill has the provision for making national standards in medical education uniform by;

proposing that the final year MBBS exam be treated as an entrance test for PG;

and a screening test for students who graduate in medicine from foreign countries.

The government has decided to call This exam the National Exit Test (NEXT).

New India’s Health Care- National Exit Test (NEXT).

‘NEXT’ or National Exit Test; would ensure that the NMC moves away from a system of repeated inspections of infrastructure and focus on outcomes.

So with this move, the central government has done away with yearly inspections and also

with this initiative, the Modi government has initiated to warn away the Inspection Raj along with;

fostering the addition of UG and PG seats in the country.

and The bill also envisages defining Community Health Providers (CHPs) as because

persons granted a license to practice medicine at mid-level.

These CHPs will allow prescribing specified medicines independently in primary/preventive healthcare,

higher authorities say in the bill, now it will  “only be under the strict supervision of medical practitioners” at higher levels,

The new commission is envisaged with the power to determine fees in 50% private medical college seats.

New India Health Care- The NMC bill aims at creating a competitive environment.

The NMC bill aims at creating a competitive environment among the medical colleges by introducing an annual ranking system.

The government will set up the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB)  to conduct an assessment of the medical colleges and;

put in place a system for ranking medical institutes.

The MARB will be the topmost body to sanction the opening of new medical colleges,

adding a postgraduate course in an existing MBBS college, and the number of seats in each of these institutes.

National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill will bridge the Doctor-Patient ratio gap and;

give a fillip to the healthcare system in the country.
