Long-Covid infection may develop MIS-C symptoms in Covid-19 Infected Children, MIS-C found in pediatric Covid19 patients. – Samaj Vikas Samvad.
characteristics of Long Covid – A recent study found that Long-Covid may develop MIS-C symptoms in Covid-19 Infected Children.
thou, It is established that children are less susceptible to developing SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Both in terms of the number of infections and the severity of the disease.
The majority of children infected with COVID-19 either remain asymptomatic or develop mild symptoms.
However, various studies have reported severe disease or a host of long-term complications or sequels,
mainly multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), in pediatric patients with COVID-19.
characteristics of Long Covid are undergoing meticulous study.
What are the characteristics of Long Covid Symptoms?
Fatigue, myalgia, headache, insomnia, respiratory problems, and heart palpitations are some of the general characteristics of long Covid,
However, recent studies have also reported several gastrointestinal symptoms-
Including nausea, dizziness, seizures, hallucinations, and testicular pain as symptoms of Long-COVID.
Currently, there is limited information on the occurrence of Long-COVID in children.
In a study conducted by Osmanov et al.,
they observed at least one persistent symptom in COVID-19 recovered children during the follow-up,
with fatigue, insomnia, altered smell, and headache being the most common symptoms.
though most of these symptoms are curable.
However, there is no change found in the study on the prevalence of sleep disturbances patterns or major occurrences of headaches over time.
Other symptoms, such as sensory problems, gastrointestinal complications,
and dermatological manifestations, have also been observed in various children as Long-COVID symptoms.
The report also showed neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular,
and musculoskeletal symptoms as a long-term complication in a smaller proportion of children recovered from COVID-19.
MIS-C was found in a few pediatric Covid19 patients!
The Study indicated that few pediatric Covid19 patients tend to develop MIS-c symptoms!
The study also showed increased age (children above 6 years)
and pre-existing allergic diseases are more likely to increase the risk of Long-COVID in children.
However, In the past some pediatric patients with MIS-C symptoms were detected by the medial observers,
which usually appeared a few weeks after the acute infection, accompanied by symptoms.
such as fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, rashes, pink eye (conjunctivitis), and headache.
According to the updated experimental estimates provided by-
the Office for National Statistics (ONS) of the United Kingdom in January 2021,
COVID-19 symptoms were still present 5 weeks after the initial infection in around 12.9% of children aged 2–11 years,
14.5% of those aged 12–16 years, and 17.1% of teenagers and young adults aged 17–24 years.
